Wildlife Watch Group
Wildlife Watch Group – the club for young people with an enquiring mind into nature This is the Junior Club of the LWT and is for young people between the ages of 8 and 15. Events are arranged on a regular basis, usually monthly and parents are welcome to join in the activities.
Most meetings are from 10.00am - 12.00noon and are at Chambers Farm Wood, by kind permission of the Forestry Commission, unless otherwise stated.
- Each meeting £1.00 per child.

Horncastle and Limewoods Wildlife Watch Programme
January-December 2009
Saturday 17th January.
- Winter birdwatch at Chambers Farm Wood.
- Help to survey the birds in the woods and hone up on your bird ID skills! Close up views of great spotted woodpeckers, tree sparrows and goldfinches, amongst others. Binoculars provided if you don't have your own.
Saturday 14th February
- Make a birdbox for National Nestbox Week, with Ray Jacklin. Choose either a robin or blue tit model to make. This is also a public event, £6.00 a box. Show your Watch membership card for a £3.00 discount!!
Saturday 21st March
- Hop to it!
- All about frogs, toads and newts and a search to see if they are out of hibernation yet.
Saturday 25th April
- Birdsong in the woods.
- Can we learn our song thrush from our robin song? Will we hear nightingales and cuckoos?
Saturday 23rd May
- Slipper animals and tardigrades
- WHAT? The microscopic animals in the jungle of .moss!
Saturday 20th June
- Trip to Fiskerton Fen nature reserve.
- Our task - to record as much wildlife as we can! Pond dipping, minibeasting and birdwatching.
Saturday 11th July
- Bioblitz at Banovallum House, Horncastle.
- Explore the grounds in the company of experts to see how many species we can find of all sorts of animals and plants. The Bioblitz starts Friday evening with bats and moths and carries on all day Saturday after we have finished, so you are welcome to stay all day.
Sunday 6th September
- Bird ringing with Anne Goodhall.
- Resident bird expert Anne will put out mist nets and we will be able to look at our wild birds close up while they get ringed and released.
Saturday 17th October
- Grand day out at Whisby Nature Park.
- Our get-together with other members. Lots of really wild activities.
- More details nearer the time.
Saturday 21st November
- Shelter building in the woods.
- Could you build a shelter to keep out the cold and rain if you had to survive in the wild?
- Test your outdoor skills!
Saturday 5th December
- Making Christmas decorations from natural and recycled materials.
- Great fun! Be prepared to get a little gluey!
